The School will be directed at students and researchers in mathematics and it will be an introduction to subjects of current interest in algebraic and arithmetic geometry, such as Riemann surfaces, moduli spaces of curves, Jacobian varieties, rational points in algebraic varieties.

The purpose of this school is to introduce young mathematicians to the foundations of the theory, to present some of its major developments and tools used for its study and also to give a few glimpses on some more advanced topics. There will be 3 minicourses; each course will start with classical material and will take the audience to the frontier of research in the subject, and will be complemented by exercise sessions. The courses will be taught in English.
